Thousand Year Old Eggs

So you take some perfectly good duck eggs, cover in a mixture of ash, lime and water or tea, then after you bury them in the ground for about 3 months you have century eggs, or thousand year old eggs ready to eat. Lulu brought some in the other day. They look horrendous and don't smell very good, but it tastes very much like a hardboiled egg, with a curious aftertaste.
